How we delivered a liquid-cooled 15MW HPC data centre in six months.

In late 2018 we embarked on one of our most ambitious projects to date: design, construction and installation of a massive 15 MW high-performance compute data centre at Skybox – a state-of -the-art, secure data facility located approximately six miles from our office in Houston.

The Skybox-based ‘DUG McCloud’ facility was designed in-house and is entirely cooled using our patented DUG Cool immersion cooling system. It was completed in just six months, an engineering and project management feat that was recognised in 2019 by being awarded the International DCD Award for Enterprise Data Centre Design.

DUG’s award-winning data centre in construction.

DCD New York spoke to our Chief Engineer Mark Lommers, Rob Morris from Skybox Data Centre, and Mathew Koerner from Critical Project Services in a webinar case study titled: How we delivered a liquid-cooled 15MW HPC data center in six months.

You can watch the interview here. It is free to view simply by registering your details. You’ll learn some of the challenges the design team faced in trying to optimise return on investment for the facility, primarily through maximising space utilisation. And you’ll hear how this innovative and groundbreaking design sets new benchmarks for efficiency, time to market, and power density.

Kym Scampoli has no idea how she ended up writing a science blog. She was dreaming of shoes one day and woke up to find herself surrounded by computers and data scientists! Kym's the manager of marketing, fun and frivolity at DUG. Her claim to fame is she managed to find kangaroos in Texas and threw a party to open DUG McCloud that was bigger than........well, Texas!
