Apply as a coach to empower girls in STEM.

Australian Science Innovations (ASI) is Australia’s premier provider of innovative and challenging science programs, competitions and residential camps.

Their Curious Minds program is now seeking enthusiastic women to become Curious Mind STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Coaches to help ignite girls’ passion in STEM!

Under the program, successful applicants will bond with high-performing female students from Years 9 and 10 to increase their confidence, stimulate their curiosity, inspire their enthusiasm and motivate their interest in STEM studies and careers. You can learn more about the mentoring program here.

By joining the coaching program, you’ll be able to make a difference in the life of a girl with a curious mind and contribute to the future career of a potential STEM professional. The program also allows you to hone your teaching and coaching skills, while developing new networks with a group of awesome like-minded peeps.

Sounds like a great opportunity? Check out this page for further info on the selection criteria and time commitments you’ll need to make. If you think you’re a great fit for the program, click here to access the application form. Don’t delay! Applications close on October 3.

“Visibility of women in science is important, because it helps girls and young women to see it as a role they could do, and the amount of discouragement from society at large should decrease,” says Dr Karen Dancer, DUG’s Senior Research Analyst in Perth, who is a past student of the ASI Physics Olympiad program and went on to achieve a PhD in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics. “Ultimately, I think to retain women [in science] they need to be able to see themselves there, have a comfortable working environment, and feel their opportunities and others’ perceptions of them are dependent on their individual performance rather than their gender.”

DUG is fortunate to work with so many brilliant and inspirational minds, and is committed to supporting, mentoring and promoting women in science. Best wishes from Team DUG to all the applicants!
