Four students from the Australian School of Petroleum have won the Asia Pacific region semi-final of the prestigious AAPG ‘Imperial Barrel Award’ using DUG Insight as their software.
The AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) will now fly the five team members, David Kulikowski, Nachiketa Mishra, Stephanie Tyiasning, Alexander Robson and Kunakorn Pokalai, to Houston to compete in the global finals. The Imperial Barrel Award is an annual prospective basin evaluation competition for geoscience graduate students from universities all over the world.
In this competition, teams analyze a real dataset (geology, geophysics, land and production infrastructure) over 8 weeks and make a 25 minute presentation to a panel of industry experts. The winner is chosen based on technical quality, clarity and originality of presentation. Teams can choose to analyse their data using any one of a range of commercial geoscience software tools.
Dr Dennis Cooke, Program Manager at the Australian School of Petroleum, said, “In my opinion, DUG Insight’s ease of use, combined with depth of functionality and high-impact displays, was one of the keys to the team’s success”.
We wish the team every success in the AAPG finals in Houston!
