All of us at Team DUG believe in giving back to our community and in particular, supporting and nuturing children who are our future scientists, artists and leaders. As a company we support a number of children’s charities: Lion’s Cancer Institute, Rotary Club Perth, PCYC. We are also a major sponsor of Perth Children’s Charity, 12 Buckets.
With West Australian children returning to school for a new school year this morning, we are reminded how challenging this time of year can be for some children. This year of course has brought more challenges than normal with COVID disrupting the school year for all students and bringing with it fear and uncertainty. More than ever, our children need our support and care.
12 Buckets is a Perth-based charity that strives to equip primary school students in need of mentoring with the skills, support and connections to build a strong future. At its core, the charity believes that school-aged children, regardless of background or circumstance, should have every opportunity to flourish.
Since its incorporation in 2010, 12 Buckets has grown to be a highly-regarded, recognised children’s charity working within four of West Australia’s most needy primary schools.
The 12 Buckets program is delivered to local Perth children who are nominated by their school principal as being in need of mentoring. 12 Buckets provides a tailored one-to-one mentoring program, focusing on belonging, independence, mastery and generosity.
Maggie Dent, renowned parenting author, educator and resilience specialist says “12 Buckets is an excellent initiative that shows the power of community for our more challenged and vulnerable children – and a safe circle of community is a key building block to raising resilient kids”.
12 Buckets recieves no government funding and relys on the generosity of local business and individuals. From less than $6 per week you can positively impact the life of a child. It costs just $1,200 for a child to be a part of the 30-week one-to-one mentoring program and there are many ways to contribute. In the words of one of the 12 Buckets students: “12 Buckets has changed my life. 12 Buckets has helped me to be who I really am. I feel a lot more confident with myself and I feel like I am supposed to be here, where I am.”
Wouldn’t we want that feeling for every child?
