Here at DUG we’re passionate about investing in our next generation of scientists, physicists, high performance compute engineers, and immersion cooling experts.
Our Systems Architect/Quantum Physicist, Dr Stuart Midgley, visited Jolimont Primary School this week for National Science Week where he conducted three interactive, fun and informative hands-on sessions, introducing the kids from years 1, 5 and 6 to HPC and immersion cooling, DUG-style.
The students thoroughly enjoyed seeing a deconstructed computer running in fluid and the inner workings of a CPU that had been “broken open”.
The sessions invoked a lot of questions from students and teachers alike – with one student asking “is Einstein’s relatively more important than his quantum theory?”. Great question! While relativity is immensely important (required to make GPS work), the students were excited to hear just what would be missing in their lives without quantum physics: LED lights, computers, lasers. All the cool stuff!
We loved inspiring the budding scientists and having the opportuntity to demonstrate where a career in STEM can take you.
