On Friday July 5, DUG organised and took part in the GeoCup2, a 5-a-side football (or soccer, for readers outside the UK) tournament for geo companies, held in Central London.
Put together by DUG’s Vanessa Butterworth and Adam Fernandes, places in the competition were in high demand. This year’s entrants included DUG, BP, CGG, CNOOC, ExxonMobil, PGS, Schlumberger, Shearwater, and SLB OneSurface.
Despite some fantastic football being played by all teams, DUG beat last year’s winners CGG 1-0 in the semi-final, advancing to play the final against Shearwater.
After an exciting and tightly contested match, DUG eventually emerged as winners. Taking the game 1-0, DUG were finally able to lift the GeoCup2 trophy after the heartbreak of losing in the final of the previous GeoCup.
The winning DUG team included: Harry Neal (responsible for the winning goals in both the semi-final and final games), Daniel Stanton, Tiago Ribeiro, Percy Mellar, Adam Goddard, Kieran Kraus, Rowan Trevelyan, Vanessa Butterworth, and Adam Fernandes.
Thanks to all the players who participated, and to all the supporters who came out to cheer on Team DUG!
Here’s to the GeoCup3, where DUG will be looking to defend our title!
