This month we launched the first of our HPC Hour events – regular opportunities to network and learn as we celebrate HPC and science.
Our first event was presented by Professor Igor Bray and was titled ‘Atomic and Molecular Collisions: What they are; How they are calculated; Why they are useful’. Professor Bray is a world-leader in the field of atomic collision theory, an excellent science communicator and a big-picture thinker. He has had continuous Australian Research Council (ARC) funding since 1992, was the Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Antimatter-Matter Studies (2007-2014), and has been Head of Curtin’s Department of Physics and Astronomy since 2010.
We had a great turnout to the event, with guests staying on to enjoy some pizza, drinks and a tour of our data centre. No visitor ever turns down the opportunity to #touchthegreen and dip their fingers into the special DUG Cool dielectric fluid that cools our supercomputers.

If you missed the event but would like to watch Professor Bray’s presentation you can watch it here.
