DUG has been a proud partner of children’s charity, 12 Buckets for many years.
12 Buckets is a grass roots, Perth-based charity striving to equip disadvantaged primary-aged students in need of mentoring with the skills, support and connections to secure a strong and bright future.
We are extremely proud to announce that our Mathematician, Michael Hartley, will be participating in the Central Park Plunge held on 12-14 November 2021 to raise funds for 12 Buckets!
Mike will abseil some 52 floors, or 220 metres, from the top of the Central Park Tower on St George’s Terrace in Perth – all in the name of charity. Assuming a constant descent velocity of 0.5 metre per second, he should be done with it in 8 minutes! But count on Mike to have all that math figured out.
“I love how 12 Buckets takes kids with sometimes chaotic home lives, and gives them an oasis of safety and stability. This will surely have a huge impact on them as they grow up.” Mike told our Science Writer.
You can support Mike’s effort, and help give West Australian children the assistance they need, by donating through his 12 Buckets, Central Park plunge page here.
This year, the Central Park Plunge fundraiser aims to raise $350,000 for a range of charities.
“I’m looking forward to the Central Park Plunge as a challenge to do something I’ve never done before, and to draw attention to the incredible work 12 Buckets does for disadvantaged kids.”
We applaud Mike for his bravery (the rest of Team DUG will be applauding from the safety of ground zero!). We wish him all the best in his philanthropic endeavour!
