Team DUG at Data Science Week.

Team DUG at Data Science Week.

It’s Data Science Week this week which is great news for HPC and technology enthusiasts. The week is action-packed full of free events, talks and learning experiences that will bring together data scientists, technologists, visualisers, and educators to network and discuss trending topics and ideas.

Team DUG is looking forward to an exciting week and you’ll find us at many of the events.

We’ll be conducting tours of our Perth data centre daily this week. It’s a great opportunity to come and view one of the most powerful and greenest data centres in the world. It’s also a chance for you to learn about our award-winning DUG Cool immersion cooling technology. You can register for one of the tours here: https://datascienceweek.dug.com/

On Tuesday May 11 Curtin Institute for Computation (CIC) is hosting a Research Networking Tea. The aim of the event is to foster collaborations and interdisciplinary research in the digital innovation space including data science, high performance computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Dr Stuart Midgley will be presenting a short talk as pert of this event, titled: “HPCaaS enabled data science”. More details and registration here.

On Wednesday May 12 Dr Stuart Midgley will be presenting as part of a workshop hosted by Innovation Central Perth and the Curtin University Oil & Gas Innovation Centre. The workshop is titled: “Unlocking the Power of AI in Earth Science” and will bring together a number of experts in the field. More details and registration here.

On Thursday May 13 we’re hosting a special HPC Hour presentation and networking event at the DUG Perth office. Titled: “Data Science Evolution of HPC: The Cheetah is Changing its Spots”, it will be presented by Dr Stuart Midgley, CIO DUG Technology, and special guest, Dr Elena Denisenko,  Research Associate at Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Science. If you’re interested in looking at how HPC has evolved to meet the complex needs of bioninformatics research, please register for the event here: https://datascienceweek.dug.com/

On Friday May 14 Dr Stuart Midgley will join a panel discussion hosted by UWA’ s DNA Zoo titled : “Western Australia – a Global Biodiversity Hotspot with Cutting Edge Compute”. The panel will discuss the growing reliance on technology to assist in the protection of biodiversity, potentially saving tens of thousands of endangered species each year. Kym Scampoli has no idea how she ended up writing a science blog. She was dreaming of shoes one day and woke up to find herself surrounded by computers and data scientists! Kym's the manager of marketing, fun and frivolity at DUG. Her claim to fame is she managed to find kangaroos in Texas and threw a party to open DUG McCloud that was bigger than........well, Texas!
