DUG showcases innovative edge-computing solution at SC24

A new edge-computing solution that enables high performance computing (HPC) to be deployed anywhere on Earth is being showcased at The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis (SC24) in Atlanta, GA, USA, from November 19 to 21, 2024.

DUG Nomad is the latest innovation from Australian-born tech company, DUG Technology (DUG), and is described as a mobile, modular data-centre solution, engineered for resilience.

DUG Nomad is fundamentally a supercomputer housed within a shipping container. But in reality it is much more.  It is integrated with DUG’s proprietary immersion-cooling technology, which is now licensed exclusively to global data-centre cooling specialists Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC). All components, including the cooling infrastructure, are contained within a single, robust enclosure designed to be deployable anywhere and withstand the harshest of elements.

“DUG Nomad represents decades of our experience — an innovative combination of tried-and-tested hardware, software and infrastructure — packaged into a high-density, mobile, modular data centre,” said Ron Schop, Executive Vice President, DUG Nomad.

“Compute-intensive applications, from modelling the formation of stars and galaxies to processing and imaging seismic data for the energy sector, need powerful hardware that generates a lot of heat, which immersion cooling can address more efficiently. DUG Nomad enables companies to access powerful, energy-efficient computing anywhere in the world.”

DUG Nomad also offers inherent flexibility — users can customise a fit-to-purpose HPC solution with preferred servers and immersion fluids, all housed entirely within a 10-, 20- or 40-foot container. At SC24, DUG Nomad 10 will be on display featuring Hypertec’s iC610DR-G6 immersion-born servers, and utilising Shell Immersion Cooling Fluid S3 X — a synthetic, single-phase fluid designed for the needs of HPC and edge computing.

The SC24 exhibition runs from November 19–21, 2024. DUG Nomad will be open for viewing throughout the event, offering attendees a firsthand look at the new edge-computing solution.
