As Chinese New Year celebrations wrap up, Team DUG would like to wish all of our clients and friends a happy and prosperous 2018. According to the Chinese 12-year animal zodiac cycle, the Chinese year beginning in 2018 is the year of the Dog. Although each of the animals gets an outing every twelve years, there are different varieties – and 2018 will be the first Year of the Earth Dog since 1958.
According to the Chinese zodiac, dogs are honest and loyal, the truest friends and most reliable partner you’ll ever find. Anyone born in an Earth Dog year will be communicative, serious, and responsible in the workplace.
Our KL office always enjoys a variety of celebrations including a lion dance performance and “Prosperity Toss”, or Yusheng, a tradition whereby everyone at the table takes turns to toss the ‘salad’ and offer blessings and good fortune for the New Year.
This year DUG MD Matt Lamont, who is always responsible, was in our new KL offices this week and joined local staff in enjoying Yunsheng, making sure he tossed the salad higher than anyone. That’s lots of good luck for DUG and our customers!
This year coincided with the new KL office refurbishment and the CNY Lion dance was the office’s first celebration. During the traditional lion dance, there are a variety of fruit and vegetables arranged at the centre of the room. This particular lion dance is cai qing, which translates as the “plucking of greens”. In Chinese, different pronunciations of ‘cai‘ can mean either ‘pluck’, ‘vegetable’ or ‘fortune’. Lion dancers will pull apart fruit and vegetables such as pomelos, oranges and lettuce, arrange them decoratively on a tray, and hand them back to the business owner, which symbolises the passing of good fortune to the business owner.
