HPC Hour: We took a deep dive into deep learning.

HPC Hour: We took a deep dive into deep learning.

On June 10th we were honoured to welcome Dr Vladimir Puzyrev to DUG’s Perth office to present an HPC Hour titled: Deep Learning in Geosciences – applications and trends.

Dr Puzyrev is Senior Research Fellow at the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences of Curtin University and Curtin University Oil and Gas Innovation Centre (CUOGIC).

His informative presentation took us into the wonderful world of of machine learning in geosciences and discussed how artificial intelligence and big data are changing the sector.

If you missed the presentation but fancy a deep dive into the latest advancements into machine learning and AI, you can catch a recording of Dr Puzyrev’s presentation here.

Unfortunately you did miss the opportunity to tour our immersion-cooled data centre, see how our supercomputer, Bruce, operates, and to network with other HPC enthusiasts.  But there’s always next time!

Our next HPC Hour will be on Thursday June 30th at 4pm in our Perth Office. Titled: ‘Disruptive Innovation – what makes sense for Australia’s space industry?’ it will be presented by Professor Russell Boyce, Chair for Intelligent Space Systems and Director of UNSW Canberra Space – Australia’s largest and leading space mission, research and education team.
