Shooting a goal for indigenous sport

The team at DownUnder GeoSolutions is proud that our company plays a vital supportive role in our local community. This year we have enjoyed playing a part in fostering indigenous sport with our sponsorship of two basketball teams comprised mainly of aboriginal girls from remote communities in Western Australia.

The girls all board at the Myera Hostel so that they can attend school in Perth at Clontarf Aboriginal College, Perth Ladies College and Aranmore Catholic College. It’s a long way from their homes and families in places as far spread Nullagine, Port Hedland, Karratha, Kununurra and Meekatharra.

DownUnder GeoSolutions provides registration fees, which cover coaching support and training costs for the U16 Girls and U20 Girls Subiaco Basketball teams.

We were thrilled that both teams achieved great results in 2011. There were more than a few nail-biting games, both teams made the finals, and several girls were invited to join All Stars teams, regional squads and coaching positions. Above all, we’re proud that we’re involved in helping to give a group of young Australians a love of sport and sportsmanship that will last a lifetime.
